Ukraine rescues reconnaissance drones with multicopter in unprecedented operation (X @DefenceU)
The 63rd Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine carried out an unprecedented operation by rescuing two reconnaissance drones, Leleka and Mara, from the battlefield.
The action was executed with the support of a Nemesis-type multicopter drone, usually used as a bomber, which used a mechanical arm to lift the drones and transport them safely. The brigade highlighted that, despite the complexity and risks, the mission was carried out with great precision by the unmanned system operators.
The video released by the brigade shows the rescue during the night, with the multicopter lifting and transporting the drones individually. The initiative demonstrates progress in the use of drones in warfare, indicating that the tactical possibilities of these aircraft are still far from fully explored. The rescued drones will continue operating on aerial reconnaissance missions for the Ukrainian forces.
Additionally, other Ukrainian units, such as the Khyzhak Special Police Brigade, have also innovated in drone use, such as destroying Russian fiber-optic controlled equipment. These Russian drones pose an extra challenge because they can evade electronic warfare systems and remain hidden for long periods.
